    All of the foam egg cartons available at EggCartons.com are made from polystyrene #6. Foam polystyrene egg cartons are widely used in the southern states to preserve the eggs longer than most other egg containers, where the heat and humidity may jeopardize the strength and integrity of the egg carton. While these egg cartons are not usually recyclable, they are easy to sanitize and re-use. So while we know these cartons don't have the best biodegradability ratings, we are pleased that they are often used more than once. Our foam egg cartons are available with stock printing and blank and can carry S-XL chicken eggs.

     

    Foam Egg Cartons FAQ

    Below you will find some of our most commonly asked questions pertaining to our foam egg cartons.

    Our foam egg cartons are made of Expanded Polystyrene (also known as EPS). Polystyrene is one of the most common forms of plastic. Many refer to it as styrofoam but that’s technically incorrect. The term polystyrene means that the plastic is derived from Styrene.



    Our foam egg cartons are 95% air, so they are an excellent damp-proof insulator, keeping eggs cold and fresh in hot, humid climates. This material is also great for protecting eggs. Some of the same qualities that make foam useful can also work against it when it comes to recycling, however.

    Many municipal recycling programs do not accept foam egg cartons (a few, like Los Angeles and Toronto, do). Foam cartons hold up much better than pulp or plastic cartons so they tend to be reused more which helps mitigate the environmental footprint though.     Foam cartons are used for many things other than eggs. Our customers use these cartons for golf ball, spare part, and small ornament storage, games like mancala, and paint cups.
